Distribution of Stationery Packs for Flood-Affected Students

The Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan (AMYS), with the generous sponsorship of WAMYS, successfully organized the distribution of 500 stationery packs for students affected by the recent floods in Kolonnawa. The event was graced by the Honourable Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rizvie Salih, as the Chief Guest. This initiative reflects our continued commitment towards supporting the educational needs of children and families affected by natural disasters. We extend our sincere gratitude to all sponsors, volunteers, and well-wishers who contributed towards making this humanitarian effort a success.

Empowering Education: School Supplies Distributed at Thummodara School

We are pleased to announce the successful completion of our 2026 School Bag Distribution Project, carried out on April 24, 2026, aimed at supporting resilient young learners in the North Western region. In the wake of recent flood disasters that severely impacted local families, the Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan (AMYS) stepped in to provide vital educational relief. Through this initiative, 125 deserving students at Thummodara School received brand-new school bags fully equipped with essential learning materials. This project successfully eased the financial burden on underprivileged parents and brought joy back to the classroom. This impactful initiative was made possible through the generous funding and continuous support of the Al-Kawthar Charity Endowment from the State of Kuwait. We extend our deepest gratitude to Al-Kawthar and its dedicated team for partnering with us to ensure that challenging circumstances never stand in the way of a child's right to learn. May Almighty Allah bless their continuous efforts and reward them abundantly.

Distribution of Essential Dry Food Packs to Residents of Kohilawatta

Following Cyclone Ditwah and the resulting emergency situation, flooding caused by the overflow of the Kelani River severely affected the Kolonnawa and Kohilawatta areas. As floodwaters have now begun to recede, families who had been residing in temporary shelters and with relatives are gradually returning to their homes. In this context, many affected families—having lost their cooking equipment and stored food supplies due to the floods—are facing significant challenges in restarting their daily lives. To support these communities during the Early Recovery phase, the Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan (AMYS) carried out the first phase of dry food assistance. Accordingly, on the 24th, under the coordination of the Management Committee of the Kohilawatta Jummah Masjid, essential dry food packs were distributed to 170 flood-affected families representing all communities in the area.

Distribution of Gas Cookers to Flood-Affected Families

Following the impact of Cyclone Ditwah and the subsequent flooding, the Wellampitiya area in the Colombo District was severely affected, leaving many families displaced and deprived of their basic household belongings. As part of the ongoing recovery and rehabilitation efforts to help affected communities rebuild their daily lives, essential cooking equipment is being distributed in several phases, based on urgent needs. Accordingly, on the 24th, under the coordination of the Management Committee of the Brandiyawatta Jummah Masjid, Wellampitiya, the Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan (AMYS) distributed gas cookers to 80 flood-affected families representing all communities residing within the Masjid’s vicinity. This initiative forms part of AMYS’s broader Recovery Strategy, aimed at restoring dignity and normalcy to families whose livelihoods were disrupted by the floods.

AMYS Provides Relief to 400 Families in Kinniya Following Cyclone Ditwah

Under the auspices of the Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan (AMYS), dry food packages were distributed on the 19th to 400 families affected by the catastrophic flooding and heavy rains brought by Cyclone Ditwah in the Kinniya area. The relief program was held under the chairmanship of Ash-Sheikh M.S.M. Thassim, Managing Director of AMYS. The event was honored by the presence of: • Mr. M.S.M. Gani – Divisional Secretary, Kinniya. • Mr. W.C.H.K. Fernando – OIC, Kinniya Police Station. • Mr. A.J.M. Warith – Executive Director, AMYS. • Respected Ulama, dignitaries, and government officials. This humanitarian initiative reflects AMYS’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable communities during times of crisis and providing timely relief to families in need.

Sight Restored! The 31st Free Cataract Camp is a Massive Success!

We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the 31st free cataract surgery camp, which was held at the Kattankudy Base Hospital in Batticaloa from September 30th to October 6th. This year's program has been a monumental success, resulting in the restoration of vision for 452 patients from various districts across the country. For these individuals, the loss of sight due to cataracts has been reversed, allowing them to regain their independence and improve their quality of life. In addition to the surgeries, our screening process identified over a hundred individuals in need of vision correction, and we were able to provide them with prescription glasses. This life-changing initiative was made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Al Basar International Foundation. This camp marks the second major surgical outreach conducted by the AMYS organization this year. We are proud to have fulfilled our duty of ensuring the 'Right to Sight' for another large group of people, thereby contributing meaningfully to the national social and economic development of Sri Lanka. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the medical staff, volunteers, and partners who made this possible.

🌙 Ramadan Parisu Malai – 2025

To mark the blessed month of Ramadan 2025, AMYS, in collaboration with the Jaffna Muslim Network, organized a special competition series titled “Ramadan Parisu Malai.” The initiative was designed to engage the Muslim community and celebrate the spirit of Ramadan through learning and creativity. The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held on Wednesday, 16th July 2025, at the AMYS Auditorium. The event was chaired by Ash-Sheikh M.S.M. Thasim (Gaffoori), Managing Director of AMYS. The Chief Guest was Hon. M.S.M. Nawaz, Director of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs, and the Guest of Honour was Ash-Sheikh Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of the All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama. Also in attendance were Mr. A.J.M. Warith (MBA), Executive Director of AMYS, directors of educational and social service organizations, Islamic institution leaders, entrepreneurs, and proud parents of the participants.

50 Water Tanks for Needy Families in Rakwana

On March 28, 2025, we had the privilege of handing over 50 water tanks (550 liters) to families in Rakwana who have been struggling with access to clean water. These tanks were generously donated by Baithuz Zakath – Kuwait. This project was proudly implemented by AMYS (Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan). For many of these families, this simple tank means so much—easier mornings, less stress, and better health. Sometimes, small things make the biggest difference. A heartfelt thank you to our donors and everyone who made this possible. May this be the beginning of more good to come.

Drinking Water Project Handed Over in Getaperiya, Aranayaka

The Association of Muslim Youth of Sailan successfully completed and handed over a vital drinking water project in Getaperiya, Aranayaka, Kegalle, on December 25, 2024. This project, conducted under the Mawanella Divisional Secretariat, fulfills a critical need for clean and safe water in the region. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for the local community by providing sustainable access to safe drinking water, which is crucial for daily life and well-being. The successful completion of this project was made possible by the blessings of Almighty Allah, the generous contributions of donors, and the dedicated efforts of the village society.
